Diesel To Release Only The Brave For Men

Only The Brave

There's no denying that Diesel likes to be creative with their perfume bottles. Just look at the leather and lace clad flacons for Fuel for Life. It should come as no surprise then that for their latest fragrance Only The Brave, the bottle is somewhat unconventional. But the unusual fist-shaped bottle is more than just a gimmic, said to have been inspired by Diesel founder Renzo Rosso's own hand.

Even the fragance's name 'Only The Brave' has close ties to the Diesel founder who's holding company goes by the same name.

This first solo men's fragrance (Diesel fragrances prior to this were always released as his and hers) is a woody oriental with a distinct leather opening developed by International Flavors & Fragrance. It will be released worldwide in May and the range will consist of 30ml, 50ml and 75ml eau de toilette sprays.

Diesel's fragrance licensee, L'Oréal, is hoping to repeat the same success it had with Fuel for Life which made it on to the world top 10 fragrances list when it was released in 2007.

Fake Perfume - Buyers Beware

I was recently contacted by someone who suspected that the Chanel No 5 perfume they had bought online (at an unnamed website) was a fake. Unfortunately this kind of thing happens more often than you think and even the most cautious buyers can be caught out.

The fact is that fake perfume is big business. In October last year Birmingham Trading Standards officers seized 40 000 bottles of fake Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace perfume. According to their report the also found "paraphernalia needed to produce counterfeit branded perfume on an industrial scale, including bottle labelling and wrapping equipment."

It's becoming increasingly difficult to spot fake perfumes on packaging alone and often you only realise you've been ripped off when you try the actual perfume itself (not ideal if you bought it as a gift for someone else). My advice would be to always buy from reputable dealers that offer full money back guarantees and if the price sounds too good to be true, it most probably is. Sometimes it's worth paying that little bit extra for piece of mind.

Leona Lewis To Release Her Own Perfume

It was only a matter of time really but it looks like Leona has finally succumbed to the pop diva lifestyle with news that she's to follow in the footsteps of JLo, Britney and Mariah Carey by launching her own perfume. I vaguely recall rumours in the past of her saying that she would never release a perfume but never say never it seems.

Word is that she's had numerous approaches before this (Elizabeth Arden perhaps? They're responsible for Britney Spears' perfume success.) Instead, like Christina Aguilera, she's decided to team up with German beauty company LR, known for its ethical products. That's a smart business move if you consider that LR is a direct sales company (like Avon) with representatives worldwide and huge sales. Not bad for a 23 year old who, a year ago, was a receptionist for a mortgage broker.

Elizabeth Arden To Launch Pretty Fragrance

Elizabeth Arden Pretty

Elizabeth Arden perfume fans will be happy to know that the launch of the brand's next fragrance, Pretty, is scheduled for March this year. Described by it's creator as a "spirited floral", this is the first new Arden fragrance since Mediterranean in 2007.

Yes, there was Red Door Shimmer last year which was a festive limited edition and they've been busy with fragrances for Britney Spears and Juicy Couture, both part of the Arden family, but Pretty is set to be the next signature scent from the Arden brand. Notes include Mandarin Orpur, orange blossom and peach nectar, with a heart of Petalia, star jasmine, pink iris and white peony and a base of musk, jacaranda wood and amber - all familiar ingredients except for Petalia, an entirely new floral ingredient from leading flavour and fragrance company, Givaudan.

Pretty will be released as an eau de parfum in 50ml and 100ml together with a body lotion and body powder, all perfect for layering. Hopefully they'll be making some free samples available so keep an eye on my free perfume samples page for details.
